|Welcome to Mt. Ararat Middle School where students work their way through a well defined continuum of learning using their passions to create a path and choose how they will demonstrate their understandings of learning.
I am incredibly excited to begin the school year and to be the new Principal of Mt. Ararat Middle School. Across the district, there is a tremendous amount of effort during the summer months to ensure that our students will be able to hit the ground running. All of our teachers have spent the past three days preparing materials and programs for the students’ arrival. I would like to thank our school district’s phenomenal maintenance staff for working exceptionally hard to prepare the school facilities for the start of the school year.
Classes begin on Monday, August 31st. This will be a full regular school day, with Advisor Group starting promptly at 7:40 AM. We will have teams lists and locations in the main office for students who are not sure where to go. Just a reminder that every Wednesday morning, students arrive to school at 8:40 AM which allows teachers to meet for professional development training. This will start on Wednesday, September 2nd. For parents that drive their children to school, we ask that drop-off time is no earlier than 7:30 AM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 8:30 AM on Wednesday.
Parent Information and Curriculum night will be held on Tuesday, September 15th at 6:30 -7:30 PM. This evening is an opportunity for parents to come in to meet with their son or daughter’s team and exploratory teachers and learn about the key areas of the curriculum and receive general information about the team and our advisory program. 6th grade parents will start in the Orion Performing Arts Center at 6:30 PM for a brief welcome from me and our new Assistant Principal, Megan Hayes Teague. 7th and 8th grade parents will go to your child’s team area at 6:30 PM, Casco, Androscoggin on the third floor; and Kennebec, Merrymeeting and Penobscot on the second floor to meet with your child’s team of teachers. Parents who have children in in Specialized Programs including Reading and Writing Class, Math 180, Team Allagash (Ms. Hopkin's class), or Gifted and Talented are invited to arrive at 6:00 PM to visit classrooms, meet teachers and ask questions about those programs.
Our “Parent Resource” page can be found at this link from the MAMS home page. This site contains the school’s protocols for how we operate as a school community, including attendance, activities, school lunch among many other important items. Our school calendar can be found at this link, and will contain all events happening at the school campus.
I am looking forward to seeing each of you in the coming weeks, and would love to hear from you if you have questions, comments, or concerns. As the new Principal, I am eager to learn more about the school community and would welcome any parent that would like to meet with me to share their experiences and perspectives. Please feel free to call the school at 729-2950 or send me an email at: email@example.com.
